Madder Root, Cinnamon & Activated Charcoal Tallow Soap

A grounded bar with terracotta veins running through deep charcoal, coloured with a slow madder-root infusion and activated charcoal.

A portion of the olive oil in this recipe is slowly infused with madder root for several weeks before the batch is made. Madder is an old natural dye plant, and infused into oil it draws out the deep rust and terracotta tones that give this bar its warm marbling.

Activated charcoal is worked into the batch for the slate-and-black passes of colour that thread through the terracotta. Where the two pigments meet in the mould, no two bars ever marble the same.

Ground cinnamon is added in a small, considered amount — enough to lend a soft warm undertone to the aroma and a subtle spice-tinged detail in the colour.

The tallow-and-olive base carries the bar quietly beneath the pigments: firmness and long-lasting body from grass-fed tallow, a mild creamy character from olive oil, cleansing bubbles from coconut, and a small pour of castor to keep the lather rich.

No added fragrance or essential oils. The subtle natural aroma comes from the ground cinnamon.
